An index and an icon are so important in the world as they show directly what a brand or a company is promoting or trying to sell, which is extremely key for first impressions of a product. They can often give people something, which they can relate to and associate a product to.

Companies may avoid using symbols in their brands as some people may not understand the purpose of these and may in fact have a negative perception to thee symbols, which is why it may be safer to avoid using these symbols entirely.

The advert which we looked at in class at first seems like a supportive and positive advert which we tend to look at in a positive manor, however once we look beneath the surface of this advertisement we can see that the advertisement could be perceived in s very negative manor.
When we look at the text it shows that the media text is telling women not to be themselves and that they should, "look like a lady" and "think like a man" to "work like a boss" ,which is obviously not true and it even implies that woman should act in a certain manor, however men do not have to.
It also has a woman on the picture to celebrate "HappyWomansDay", which implies that the other 364 days of the year are for men and that men should be on the advert. The advertisement is not clear on what it is selling either. the logo is a symbol, as we learn that the logo is associated with the company. There could be an argument that the little man who is holding the pen is an icon as he is holding a pen, however from the entire advert, this small icon is not impacting the advert to a large scale and I would say this hardly counts for an icon at all.

This was an extremely successful advert for puma, it stars "the fastest man in the world" and begins to associate him with the puma brand in people's eyes. everyone knows Usain Bolt and his achievements and to see him wearing accessories of puma will without a doubt give people the idea that the puma equipment assists him in his speed or why else would such a renowned sports performer be wearing it. It also contains the puma logo, which is a Puma running, which is known for being a particularly fast animal and is an index.
