Textual analysis: homework

(Theresa May has said the decision not to renew Uber’s London licence is disproportionate and accused the mayor, Sadiq Khan, of putting thousands of jobs at risk.
The ride-hailing company to appeal against the decision by Transport for London not to renew its license to operate in the capital for reasons of public safety.
The prime minister acknowledged there were “safety concerns for Uber to address” but said the decision “damaged the lives” of millions of users.
The licence expires on 30 September, although Uber will continue to run cars during the appeal process, which could last a year.
Speaking before the Conservative party conference, May told the BBC: “At a stroke of a pen, what the mayor has done is risked 40,000 jobs and of course … damaged the lives of those 3.5 million Uber users.
She added: “I think a blanket ban is disproportionate. What I think people want to see is a choice.”) - The Guardian
1) The type of text is literary non-fiction and is informative writing. 2) I can tell this as it is a news article which is clearly informing the audience of the current situation, however, it may be biased as it seems to show our prime minister in a positive perspective regardless of what she says.
3) In my opinion, the target audience is the people who are in favour of Uber keeping their London license and would like to see them continue in the current way they operate. I think that majority of the people in London would like to see Uber retain their license and would, therefore, support this news article which may be why they have written it showing Uber and Theresa may in a positive light.
4)This would be accesable to a wide range of consumers as it is a news article which is available on both news papers and online, meaning that a wide range of people would be able to read it and would read althrought the day, although I imagine people would read it more in the morning.

5) What values, ideologies and beliefs in society are reinforced or challenged in this media text?
This media text directly challenges the Mayor Of London, it shows two of the largest figures in the city against each other and challenges the decision, which was made for the city and labels it as WRONG.
